After Project Rosemeyer was heavily attacked by many fans and press alike, Audi showed a much more "civil" concept car at the 2000 "Paris Auto Saloon": the Steppenwolf. It is based on the A3 quattro but has the air suspension of the Allroad quattro. It is powered by a newly developped, and -like in the A3- transverse mounted 3.2 litre VR6 with 225PS (165kW) and 320Nm and a six gears manual transmission. The roof is made of canvas and can be removed easily or replaced by a high-tec carbon hardtop. Additional options include a detachable winch and detachable running boards. Noteable are the integrated searching light in the rear-view mirrors. The car weighs 1550kg, presumeably without the add-ons and runs from 0 to 100km/h (around 62mph) in 7.8 sec and has a topspeed of 238km/h (149mph). To allow decent offroad capabilities, the ride height can be adjusted within 60mm (2,4 inches). Tires are specially designed high-performance 225/50/19 tires on 19 inch rims. Braking is done by a powerful brake, while the parking brake is an electro-hydraulic setup (EHPB=electro hydraulic parking brake). Another electronic gadget is the electronic differential lock. Between the seats you will find a cooling box that is dipped into red light at night as are the massive, glove-compatible switches and the extra cargo space in the sides of the car. |
